On September 18, 2025, The Employees' Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) has announced significant digital reforms aimed at enhancing user experience and operational efficiency for its over 75 million subscribers. These changes, part of EPFO's ongoing modernization initiative, include the launch of Passbook Lite, a single-login portal, and online access to Annexure K (Transfer Certificate)
These features are being rolled out in phases across different EPFO regions. Availability may vary by location and member portal version. Members are advised to check their individual portals for feature availability.

EPFO Passbook Lite 2025: Simplified Access to PF Details
Previously, EPF members had to log in separately to the Passbook Portal to view their contributions, withdrawals, and balance.
This dual-login system often led to delays and user dissatisfaction. With the introduction of Passbook Lite, members can now:
View a summarized version of their PF passbook, including contributions, withdrawals, and current balance, directly within the EPFO Member Portal.
Access key services through a single login, eliminating the need for multiple credentials and reducing the risk of password-related issues.
Continue using the existing Passbook Portal for a detailed and comprehensive view, including graphical displays, for those who prefer in-depth information.
This reform aims to reduce grievances, improve transparency, and enhance member satisfaction by streamlining access to PF details.
Online Access to Annexure K: Enhancing PF Transfer Transparency
When employees change jobs, their PF accounts are transferred to the new employer’s PF office via Form 13 online. After transfer, a Transfer Certificate (Annexure K) is generated by the previous PF office and sent to the new PF office. Until now, Annexure K was only shared between PF offices and was made available to members only upon request.
With the recent reform, members can now directly download Annexure K in PDF format from the Member Portal. This enhancement allows members to:
Track the status of transfer applications online, ensuring full transparency.
Verify that PF balances and service periods are correctly updated in the new account.
Maintain a permanent digital record for future reference, aiding in pension benefit calculations.
This move is expected to reduce delays, improve accountability, and enhance transparency in the PF transfer process.
Complete Download Process for Annexure K
Below are the steps to download Annexure K:
Step 1: Log into EPFO Member Portal using UAN and password
Step 2: Navigate to 'Online Services' → 'Track Claim Status'
Step 3: Select 'Transfer Claims' from the dropdown menu
Step 4: Locate your transfer application (Form 13) in the list
Step 5: Click 'Download Annexure K' next to completed transfers
Step 6: Verify PDF contains: Previous employer details, service period, and transferred balance
Important: Annexure K becomes available 3-5 working days after transfer completion. If not visible, contact your previous employer's PF office for status update."
Streamlined Approval Process: Accelerating Claim Settlements
To expedite claim settlements and improve operational efficiency, EPFO has rationalized the approval hierarchy:
Delegated powers that previously rested with Regional Provident Fund Commissioner/Officer-in-Charge to Assistant PF Commissioners and subordinate levels.
Reduced the number of approval layers, facilitating faster processing times for claims.
These changes aim to simplify service delivery, reduce processing times, and enhance member satisfaction.
Impact of Approval Changes:
EPFO's streamlined approval process aims to:
Reduce claim processing times through fewer approval layers
Minimize bureaucratic bottlenecks in the system
Improve member satisfaction with faster service delivery
Create uniform processing standards across regions
Why These Reforms Matter
These initiatives signal a major digital leap for EPF members, focusing on:
Convenience: Quick, single-login access to key PF details.
Transparency: Members can track transfers and verify balances independently.
Efficiency: Streamlined approvals and reduced bureaucracy.
For members, this means fewer delays, greater control, and a more seamless PF management experience.
